Is your personal watercraft ready for summer? Check out these tips to help.

Updated: Apr 28

Getting your personal watercraft (PWC) ready for summer involves several steps to ensure it's in optimal condition for safe and enjoyable use. Here's a comprehensive guide:

  1. Inspect the Hull: Check the hull for any signs of damage, such as cracks, scratches, or dents. Repair any damages to prevent water from seeping into the hull.

  2. Check the Engine: Inspect the engine compartment for any signs of leaks, corrosion, or damage. Check the oil level and ensure it's clean and at the appropriate level. If needed, change the oil and oil filter according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

  3. Battery Inspection: Check the battery terminals for corrosion and ensure they are clean and tight. If the battery is old or shows signs of weakness, consider replacing it.

  4. Fuel System Check: Inspect the fuel lines, connections, and fuel tank for any signs of leaks or damage. Ensure the fuel is fresh and free from contaminants. Consider adding a fuel stabilizer if the PWC will be stored for an extended period.

  5. Cooling System: Check the cooling system hoses and connections for any signs of leaks or damage. Ensure the impeller is in good condition and replace it if necessary.

  6. Inspect the Propulsion System: Check the jet pump and impeller for any debris or damage. Remove any obstructions and ensure the impeller spins freely.

  7. Inspect Steering and Controls: Test the steering system to ensure it moves smoothly and without any restrictions. Check the throttle and brake controls for proper operation.

  8. Check Safety Equipment: Ensure all required safety equipment, such as life jackets, fire extinguisher, whistle, and flares, are on board and in good condition.

  9. Clean and Wax: Clean the exterior of the PWC thoroughly, removing any dirt, grime, or salt deposits. Apply a coat of wax to protect the hull from UV rays and water damage.

  10. Trailer Maintenance: Inspect the trailer tires for wear and proper inflation. Check the lights, brakes, and wheel bearings for proper operation. Grease the wheel bearings if needed.

  11. Test Run: Before hitting the water, perform a test run in a controlled environment to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

  12. Review Regulations: Familiarize yourself with any local regulations or requirements for operating a PWC in your area.

By following these steps, you can ensure your personal watercraft is ready for a safe and enjoyable summer on the water. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to call me! 269-220-0283 Joe
